Four questions worth asking

Most painful stories start with skipping one of these. None takes more than a few minutes.

  1. Is the firm on my regulator's register?Under the exact name and website address it is using - not just a similar one.
  2. How much could I lose on a bad day?In money, with the leverage I would actually use.
  3. Can I withdraw without paying new fees?Legitimate providers deduct charges from your balance, they never ask for fresh money first.
  4. Is anyone pressuring me?Urgency, secrecy and "guaranteed" returns are the classic signs of fraud.
Leverage

Small moves, large consequences

Leverage lets a small deposit control a large position. That works both ways: with leverage of 1:30, a 2% move against you costs 60% of the margin you put up. Regulators in the EU and the UK cap retail leverage for exactly that reason.
